Being an Active Citizen Thematic Planning Series’ for Global Citizenship Education in Primary Schools now available for piloting

The series is currently in its piloting phase. We are seeking primary school teachers and student teachers who will use the plans in their practice between November 2025 and April 2026 and who will provide us with feedback on this experience.

What is included in the Thematic Planning Series?

• Two sets of thematic plans, on the themes of ‘Environment’ and ‘Fairness’
• Three fortnightly plans for Junior Primary (Junior Infants to Second Class) on each theme, with sub-themes for each fortnight
• Three fortnightly plans for Senior Primary (Third to Sixth Class) on each theme, with sub-themes for each fortnight
• Themed activities for each of the five curriculum areas in the revised curriculum(Arts Education; Language; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; Social and Environmental Education; and Wellbeing)
• Links to free, online teaching and learning resources for each activity
• Guidelines on developing your own fortnightly plan, linked to the overarching theme of ‘Being an Active Citizen’
